What's new

Archives DMP

Originally before Thomas land was installed it was just a shell of a building and the 4D cinema was originally gonna be built in there
They could have had a pirate themed 4d film? Ideal.. the original rides at Drayton manor were travelling rides weren’t they. So I’m assuming the ghost train was as such just permanently left in place? Or was it a permanent structure? I do remember the outside changing after the pirate adventure was built though.

This was it in it’s original form when it was built in 1978

Then when pirate adventure opened in 1990 it stayed the same to the end of the 1991 season and then pirate cove was created and was renamed the crypt

It was left like this for a couple of years to the Bryan’s put walls up and themed the building to fit into Pirate cove and it stayed like this with the building used for storage to the end of the 2007 season then Emily play area was built and the building was not touched again to the closed season of 2012 when Winston’s station and queue line was built in front of it.

I remember the crypt, not so much the original ghost train. Interesting how the replacement building looks like it’s attached to the same structure as the pirate adventure, rather than just being butted up along side. Shame so much of the original surround to the pirate adventure was hidden away behind new building works. Also noticed what looks like a lot of trees around the original ghost train, makes it look a bit rural

I think I just stumbled across the music Apocalypse used when it opened in 2000, do correct me if I'm wrong. It's called Declamation, composed by Chris Payne.

May I add a few pics to the DM Archive? These were taken in 1987. The year my beloved nan came with us. 69 years of age she was - we somehow persuaded her to come on the Buffalo with us. It was very funny for us, not so much for her when her false teeth almost landed in the lake!:-)

No pics of that, but a few of us circa 1987:

Happy days. :)

Thank you for posting. Did u have any pictures outside the Buffalo which was new this year.
Think this was the 1st year I went to the park.
I remember the red Baron ride behind you.
I don't have anymore pictures. Sorry. I did find these on ebay tho...

😀

For the record - these pics were listed without watermarks, and posted on a public site - therefore they are public domain pictures. (y)

I have a question regarding the Drayton queen , does anyone know if this boat was on a track or was it a typical boat with no track? I only ask because I know the boat similar to this at WDW was on a track which shocked me for some reason.

No it wasn’t on a track it went round the whole of the lake and on the island at the back end of the lake there is still the buffers where the boat turned round.

Why did they remove Drayton Queen seemed to still fit the park and looked like a good scenic ride
I'd believe age/condition and lack of interest from guests... Also I imagine you need to be qualified to drive a boat - Could all be contributing factors, but I do not know the specific reason.

They should consider bringing it back. Let's be honest - there isn't much for the more Senior guests to do in DM anymore.

Back in the day they had the cable car ride and a ferris wheel and the lake stuff. Now they've got nowt! (there's the Zoo)

Here's my suggestion - Pensioners get in for £10. (They currently pay 2 or 3 times that)

More pensioners equals more young couples. There's plenty of young couples that have 2 kids. 1 will old enough to go on rides. The other is still in a pushchair. They have to take it in turns going on rides. What if they could bring their grandparents as cheap babysitters whilst they go on the rides together as a family?

Yes, they can do that NOW - BUT it costs TOO much!

£60 or £20 for the grandparents. Just imagine how many more visitors there will be. More visitors= more money.

Those pensioners will drink their body weight in Tea - so money to be made there. If the sun is shining they're quite fond of icecreams too. Plenty of potential money to be made.

Just a thought. :) :)
