What's new

Zoo Improvements

I think it’s all towards the new laws for Zoo’s coming in over the next 2 years. That enclosure with how many was in there was 2 small and the reason the red panda’s have a new home and other animals have also been moved around the park.

Lynx look happy in their new enclosure it is far bigger and more open then their old one. Would suggest to Drayton build an overhead tunnel so you could link their new and old enclosure together creating a much bigger space

Noticed some buildings round the very back of the Zoo are starting to be removed, these looked kinda ugly in my opinion, What animals did these house.

Seems a Meerkat Experience might be coming as there is a sign back there.

Can't quite get the angle on Terrance and Exhibition former locations

Weirdly happy tree there too...
I know there was a provost squirrel and porcupines back there at one point
The Meerkat signage has been there for a while - but I believe they used to do the experiences in the main enclosure.

The Squirrels are in 1 of the old bird enclosures now.

What were these back buildings used for. To me they've always been kinda eerie especially when they closed that area
Back in the day it was a working farm and they did have a few cows and they milked them in that building. Then it was replaced with a plastic cow and finally a zoo keepers room.
In the barns it use to have pigs and horses and in the buildings opposite the Thomas train station they had different animals in there over the years.

Why were they removed. Surely a farm would bring some money in and also helped stock the food units around the park.

Think it was the shift from been a zoo with a funfair to a full on theme park.
Originally where the barriers are now was pay booths and you pay per person and for parking which got you into the zoo and you had to buy wristbands or tickets to go on the rides.
The Zoo in the 80’s and 90’s was very popular and busy. My parents took me and my sister and we use to spend hours in there then we would get tokens to go on some of the rides.
Then they started to bigger rides and guests just went just for the rides so they decided to scrap the wristbands and tokens but a fence all around the park and charge 1 price and the rest is History and really the only people who visit the zoo now is Annual pass holders and families with young children.
I will be very surprised if the zoo and farm will still be at the park by the parks 100th birthday.
