The Haunting

They also got rid of all the ivy that was growing all over the Lorry Vehicle!

Hopefully this is a sign of TLC and that The Haunting is in good hands. Would be really sad if they do eventually retheme it, especially considering that the ride will be celebrating it's 30th anniversary next year!

At this point, I think it's became too much of a cult classic and park icon (probably their most iconic non thrill ride) to be rethemed. I think it's secluded enough to be it's own sort of area, something like "Drayton Parish Area" would be good!

The ride does definitely needs work and enhancements, but a retheme isn't the answer personally.

Hope to see more work like this done more frequently in the future!

They should increase the height limit or put age limit on the Haunting many times I have seen kids start crying in the 3rd Preshow with the painting

As far as "restricting" the ride due to being scary - that is more of a case of using judgement as every child is different. Some 12 year olds will burst into tears at something scary but a 5 year old could love that exact same thing (As shown both at themeparks but also with my scareacting) - You can only really restrict so much before it becomes the responsibility of the guests/parents to know their own selves what they are able to enjoy on a "scare" or intensity level.

Ivy removal is good to see - that stuff as nice as it is, can become damaging to a surface overtime (And pull down and cause problems etc)

Was just thinking with the pirate adventure building been 35 years old and it’s falling a part and needs replacing with the Haunting the same with the building been untouched in 30 years maybe that frontage is have to be all replaced soon. Won’t be hard to remove it all and replace with wood and could be themed to a haunted Motel.

I believe most of the facade is made of fiberglass which can last a good amount of time the Nemesis creature is a good example and that's very complex. It's wood rot that you need to look out for, e.g windows and banisters which are basically disintegrating at the minute. I'm sure it would be cheaper to refurbish the current facade than to demolish it and build something new.

Lets not continue using wood panelling for everything... Drayton does seem to like wood panelling lately.
The difference is the Wild West is all wooden buildings. If they do want to theme it into the area.
The easiest thing they could do is have a projector of the vicar projector onto the picture.

I'd rather have a ride that doesn't fit in the area whatsoever that's much higher quality over one that does fit in the area but is bad quality.

Guests come to theme parks for high quality experiences, not for a ride simply because it fits in an area.

To be honest, I haven't heard anyone outside of here complain about The Haunting not fitting in, so I don't think it's really an issue.

I think you are right. Let's face it, pretty much every theme park and travelling fairground has a "scare" ride. It's a theme in itself.

Good to see they are continuing doing the work!, them taking the ivy off the window near the lorry is a good sign they'll be doing more of the facade. Door been blocked off because of school kids again? always happens.
I think they currently looking at painting the door as they chains that were damaging the door have been removed

The chains are definitely still there in the photo just a tad bit small, wouldn't be complaining if they got removed though.
Have they removed some of the loose moving chains? Looks like the kids have really damaged that door with them chains.
I really do think for £250000 they could really solve a big problem with the ride.

For starters I would remove the lorry and replace it with a cellar area so it looks like you are entering the back of the house. Add props and things in there to look like a used storage cellar
They keep the current DR X Video and to still enter the skeleton corridor but they remove the UV lighting and move the strobe light up above so it flashes as the skeletons come down.
You enter the library and this just needs minor work. Now I would bring the original vicar audio back in full and program the effects to work around that. I’m sure they can get someone to made a projector film of the vicar which can replace the current women.
You then enter the mad house but as originally the vicar voice spoke to you by the tombstone they could reinstall the ghost projector and you flys around the room and when he talks his project on the windows of the ride support beams.
Then as the coffin opens the women has been changed into a man instead.

Had 4 rides yesterday, was really nice getting to see the newly cutback ivy and all the effects were working on the ride as usual.
It was also the rides 29th Birthday so Happy late Birthday The Haunting!.

Some things worth talking about was that the attendant and op were clearly having a laugh during most of the experience, i don't mind this as long as it doesn't effect enjoyment and immersion of the ride but when you start shouting and talking over the preshow's and talking on the mic during the madhouse it gets a bit too much and ruins first impressions. I've never seen anything like it.

The mechanism for Agatha was making some abhorrent sounds during my final ride it was genuinely concerning i think they need to order some WD40!, before the coffin opened it sounded as if it already started moving but bouncing back down (imagine screeching sounds, very hard to describe sorry!) when it opened the sounds were a lot louder and stopped when it shut. No idea if its a common problem.

The projector for the portrait needs a little adjusting as you can see the edge of the media that's being played, once you see it you cant miss it unfortunately and the head of the lady is being cut off slightly, i did spot it earlier this year but its gotten worse as of recent.
Anyways i took some more detailed photos of the new work that's happened which ill share below.

Clearing of this area looks really nice! clearer views of the facade too, hope the back wall in the background gets some clearing done to it.

This is to the right of the trailer before you walk in for those unfamiliar this hasn't been properly seen in a long time!, this also shows the extent of the ivy growing on the facade, its even growing underneath the wood covering the windows! i did unfortunately spot some places where holes are. Again for those unfamilar this is just before you enter the empty shop / supposed planned restaurant, this will be a really nice view if they continue to remove the ivy and hopefully the thinner but taller trees that have been growing for a long long time.

Looks like the lorry driver was a little hot in this heat that they've had to roll the window down for some breeze!.

Drayton Manor do have an Ivy Problem both Hautning and Pirate Advernture Facade both covered in Ivy not sure if its better or worse on Pirate Adventure facade though

Was he a chap with brightly coloured hair?
Yeah, he's really nice to be fair ive spoke to him a fair few times when he was on sheriffs. I'm sure he was just having a nice time trying to make people have a good time but it was sacrificing the experience unfortunately as you said, there was a time where shouting was necessary as a group of school kids were talking over the attendant trying to give the safety spiel so he helped them out.
